However, currently only people connected with essential services will be allowed to travel in the local train. The first local ran at 5.30 am on Monday. Today, 200 local trains of Central Railway and 120 local trains of Western Railway will run. There was a meeting of railway officials on Saturday to start local trains in Mumbai. After this it was decided to start local.
Currently, only policemen, nurses, doctors, municipal employees, scavengers, other municipal employees and journalists will be able to travel in the local train.
How many trains on which route
Western Railway
A total of 73 trains will run on Churchgate to Dahanu route of Western Railway. 8 trains will run between Virar and Dahanu Road stations. These local trains will run from 5.30 am to 11.30 pm. Some local trains will run till Dahanu. Some fast locals will run between Churchgate and Borivali. After Borivali, it will run slow at the next station.
Central railway
A total of 200 local trains of Central Railway will be run. Local will run on 100 up route and 100 down route. The CSMT will run 130 local trains between Kasara, Karjat, Kalyan and Thane stations. Of these, 65 will go up and the remaining 65 will go down the line. These local trains will be stopped at some major stations.
Changes in the rules of travel in local trains
Ordinary travelers will not be able to travel in local. Ticket windows will be opened for passengers connected with essential services.
He/she will get the ticket only if the concerned employee shows the government identity card.
It has been decided to extend the validity of pass holder tickets. Employees will be allowed to go to stations showing their ID cards.
QR code based e-passes will be issued to employees. It will also be checked that the employee who is coming for duty is not living in the contention zone.
For social distancing, only 700 people will be allowed in 1200 capacity coaches. There will be no hawker and no parking area up to 150 meters in the railway station area. An ambulance will be stationed outside each station as an emergency service.
