Mumbai’s First Casualty of Delta Plus Variant- 63 Year Old Woman Vaccinated With Both Doses

There have been two deaths in Maharashtra so far due to the Delta Plus variant. The first death was of an 80-year-old woman on June 13 in Ratnagiri.

 

Mumbai| The first death due to the Delta plus variant of Covid-19 has been reported in Mumbai. A 63-year-old woman from the Ghatkopar area of ​​the city succumbed to the highly infectious variant of the virus on July 27 while undergoing treatment. She was infected with coronavirus on July 21. The BMC received her genome sequencing report on Thursday, which made it clear that she was infected with the Delta Plus variant. The woman was infected with the virus despite taking both doses of vaccine.

The state government had informed the BMC that 7 people in Mumbai have been found infected with the Delta Plus variant. BMC then started tracing the people who came in contact with these patients.

Other patients who came in contact were also infected with Delta Plus

Head of Mumbai Health Department Dr. Mangala Gomare said that 6 other people who came in contact with the woman were also traced. Delta Plus variant has been detected in 2 more of these people. A few more people are waiting for the test report.

Dr. Gomare said that the woman was suffering from an Interstitial lung and obstructive airway. She was initially kept at home on oxygen support, later admitted to the hospital on July 24, where she died after three days of treatment.

65 patients in the state infected with Delta Plus variant

On Wednesday, 20 new cases of Delta Plus variant were found in Maharashtra. With this, the number of patients infected with this variant has reached 65. Jalgaon district has the highest number of 13 patients.

Mumbai has the highest number of 7 patients. After this 3 patients have been found in Pune, 2 in Nanded, 2 in Gondia, 2 in Raigarh and 2 in Palghar. Similarly, one patient each has been found in Chandrapur and Akola districts. Out of 65 patients found in Maharashtra, 32 are men and 33 are women.
