New Satellite Images Show Increased Chinese Build-Up Beyond LAC: Report

New Delhi / Leh| A new satellite image has surfaced after a violent clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley 10 days ago. In this high resolution image, a number of Chinese Army constructions or camps are clearly visible on both sides of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) around the Galwan River, reports said. In the violent skirmish on the night of June 15 in the Galwan Valley, 20 of our soldiers were killed, while about 40 soldiers, including the commanding officer of China, were killed.

Retired Major General Ramesh Padhi said on the newly released satellite image that China had gathered army carts and equipment in the Galwan Valley with complete planning so that it would stay here for a long time.

But in the second image taken after this, the presence of Chinese army along LAC and its construction was clearly visible. This suddenly disappeared after the violent clash on 15 June. According to media reports, China has deployed a large force 30 km from Daulat Begh Oldie (DBO) airstrip in eastern Ladakh and 21 km from Depsang. Military vehicles and cannon have also started reaching the camps here. China wants to make it difficult for the Indian Army between 10 and 13 petrol points in this area. It wants to occupy the areas near Karakoram Pass, so that it can find a way to the highway going to Pakistan. India had opposed the construction of this project.

After the border dispute and the martyrdom of 20 soldiers in the Galvan Valley, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called an all party meeting on 19 June. In this, the PM had said that there was no intrusion and no Indian post was captured. Opposition parties, including Congress, raised questions on the statement. After this, the government clarified that the Prime Minister’s statement was being misinterpreted.

On the night of June 15, there was a violent clash between India and China over the border dispute. During this time, Chinese soldiers attacked Indian soldiers with barbed wire and deadly weapons. In this, 20 of our soldiers including the commanding officer of Bihar Regiment were martyred. After this, Lieutenant General Level talks took place in Moldo between the two countries to resolve the dispute. In this, India expressed its displeasure over the violent skirmishes, describing China as a well-planned conspiracy and said that China should withdraw its troops from the Pangong Tso area and Galwan Valley.
