Opposition Parties Move No-confidence Motion Against Rajya Sabha Dy. Speaker

Earlier, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O’Brien, while opposing the bills, targeted the Centre and reminded the Centre of its promise of doubling farmers’ income by 2022. Entering the well of the House, O’Brien showed the rule book to Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh.

A no-confidence motion has been moved against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh by opposition parties after he overruled opposition pleas for postponing Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s reply to the debate on the two farm bills till Monday as the scheduled sitting time of the House was over, the Indian Express reported.

Farmers’ and Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 was passed by the Upper House of Parliament today, through voice vote. “He (Harivansh) should safeguard the democratic traditions but instead, his attitude today harmed the democratic traditions & processes. So, we have decided to move a no-confidence motion against him,” Congress RS MP Ahmed Patel was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

After the incident, the TMC MP shared a video on his twitter and wrote: “They cheated. They broke every rule in Parliament. It was a historic day. In the worst sense of the word. They cut RSTV feed so the country couldn’t see. They censored RSTV. Don’t spread propaganda. We have evidence.”
