Pune: On the demise of Babasaheb Purandare on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi through twitter extended his condolence to the Padma Bhushan awardee and tweeted ” “I am pained beyond words. The demise of Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare leaves a major void in the world of history and culture. It is thanks to him that the coming generations will get further connected to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. His other works will also be remembered.”

He also added, “Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare will live on due to his extensive works. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family and countless admirers. Om Shanti.”
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thakeray has also announced state funeral for the notable historian and author Babasaheb Purandare, according to a statement produced by Chief Minister’s office.
The last rites of the veteran was conducted at Vaikunth crematorium in Pune.
Padma Vibhushan Babasaheb Purandare died at 5 am on Monday morning at Deenanth Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. He had been on life support in the hospital.
After falling inside of his bathroom he was directly admitted to Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on Saturday.
Babasaheb Punrandare was a celebrated author, historian, and theatre personality. He was also known for his works of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He wrote many books on the Equivalent Emperor and his reign and the famous Shivaji Era . The famous play Janta Raaj based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was also directed by Babasaheb Purandare.
In 2015, he received the state government’s Maharashtra Bhushan award. In 2019, he received the Padma Vibhushan, for India’s second-highest civilian award. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
