Pandit Nehru wanted to protect minorities in Pakistan: PM Modi in Lok Sabha

PM Modi said “Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru himself was in favor of protecting minorities in Pakistan, I want to ask Congress, was Pandit Nehru communal?

New Delhi: Attacking the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday in Lok Sabha said that if his government had followed the same path and pace as the past 70 years, Article 370 and Triple Talaq would have not removed, and the Ayodhya temple-mosque dispute would not have ended.

“There has been concern over why the central government is in a hurry to do things,” said PM Modi mockingly, addressing the opposition benches in the Lok Sabha as he replied to a debate on the President’s address.

“India wants to work with a new mentality, and our government is here because of it. But if we moved ahead of the way you people did, if we had been on the direction that you had become used to, then even after 70 years, Article 370 wouldn’t have been scrapped,” said Modi.

Speaking on Economy, Modi said “We have maintained the fiscal deficit, the macroeconomy is stable too. FDI and revenue collection under GST has been on the rise. Our focus is on infrastructure development and job creation.”

I will do Surya Namaskar for six months and toughen myself up to bear the blows, Prime Minister said in the Lok Sabha responding to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comment that youth of this country will “start beating the PM with sticks in six months if they don’t get jobs”.

Modi took a jibe at Congress and said “It is essential for Congress to understand the importance of the Constitution. They controlled the PM and PMO using the National Advisory Council for decades. India is observing what is happening in Delhi and across the country in the garb of saving the constitution.”

“It is necessary for Congress to keep repeating that the Constitution must be saved from the government. This practice will make them realize their deeds. Did the Congress try to save the Constitution during the Emergency time?” asked Modi.

PM Modi said “Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru himself was in favor of protecting minorities in Pakistan, I want to ask Congress, was Pandit Nehru communal? Did he wanted a Hindu Rashtra?”

“The Nehru-Liaquat Agreement in 1950 signed the protection of minorities living in India and Pakistan. Religious minorities were mentioned in this agreement. Nehru was a big thinker, then why did he not include all the citizens there in the agreement instead of the minorities there? What the central government is saying today, was the same thing with Nehru,” says PM Modi.
