Mr Fadnavis also noted that the action being taken against Mr Rane, including the FIRs and impending arrest, is an overreaction.
After Union Minister Narayan Rane’s ‘slap Uddhav’ comment invited heavy backlash, former Maharashtra CM and Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said the BJP does not support the statement made by Mr Rane. However, Mr Fadnavis also noted that the action being taken against Mr Rane, including the FIRs and impending arrest, is an overreaction.
“Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray did not remember the year of Amrit Mahotsav of India’s independence. There could be another way to protest it. We do not support Rane’s statement. The BJP does not support Rane’s statement, but we are with Rane in full force regarding the way Shiv Sena is responding,” Mr Fadnavis said.
Speaking on the attacks by the Sena workers on various BJP offices in the state, the LoP in Maharashtra assembly said: “I want to tell all the concerned police commissioners that if there are attacks on the office of the BJP, then we will also not sit silent. We will go to the office of the police commissioner of the area where our offices are being targeted and will agitate outside it. We will not remain silent, this is not my threat. We don’t rada (fights), we’re not radebaaz (fighters). ”
“The case registered by the police and the order issued, I have read it . After seeing it, it begs a question whether the senior police officers consider themselves to be Chhatrapati (Shivaji Maharaj)? It is also necessary to take the statement of the person against whom the case is being registered, before applying the sections imposed by the police. The action being taken by the police has been done to please the government,” Fadnavis added.
