Peace, stability can be brought to JK through honest administration: Rajnath Singh

Rajnath Singh

On his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the imposition of Governor’s rule, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today that peace and stability could be brought to the state through an honest, effective and efficient administration.

Singh said this after reviewing the security situation in the state at a high-level meeting attended by Governor N N Vohra, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and top civil and police officials here.

“The dream of a developed and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir will be realised when there is peace and normalcy in the state. It is our firm resolve to bring peace, stability and prosperity through an honest, effective and efficient administration for the problems facing the state,” a statement quoted him as saying.

Discussing the way forward for the state, Singh said development and good governance had remained elusive for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the central government was committed to taking all possible measures to bring accountability and transparency in the system.

“With a renewed focus on good governance and development, the Centre is looking forward to kindle new aspirations and hopes amongst the people of the state,” he said.

The home minister said the solution to problems lies in empowerment of the people and strengthening the institutions of local self-government.

Jammu and Kashmir was placed under governor’s rule on June 20 after the BJP withdrew support to alliance partner PDP, prompting Mehbooba Mufti to resign as chief minister.

‘You contest elections to win; not to be a good boy’: PTI chief Imran Khan

TestHostEntry

Karachi | Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said that parties contest to win elections and not to be a good boy while dwelling upon the country’s complex political realities

Speaking to a media house during his political rally in Karachi, the cricketer turned politician said, “You contest elections to win. You don’t contest elections to be a good boy. I want to win. I am fighting elections in Pakistan, not Europe. I can’t import European politicians.”

“I cannot vouch for each of the near 700 national and provincial-level candidates, my party has fielded to contest the upcoming elections, I am playing with what exists in Pakistan’s political class,” he added. Imran Khan also spoke about the importance of manpower and financial resources for a successful election campaign.

Speaking about the Politics in Pakistan, Khan said “After 1997, I came to the conclusion that unless we took people in the party who know the art of winning the election, we will not be able to succeed. This is not Europe, where all you need to do is tell people what you stand for and they will go out and vote for you. In Pakistan, you need money and thousands of trained polling agents who can bring out people on the day of the election. If you do not have those workers, you cannot contest the election.”

Khan further denied that he has compromised his ideals by awarding tickets to electables. “It would be a compromise if I did not stick to my objectives after coming into power, and if I did not run a clean government.”

Imran Khan also gave credit to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his efforts to improve relations with India. He said, “Nawaz Sharif tried everything, even personal [gestures] calling him [Modi] over to his house. No one got in his way. But I think it is the policy of the Narendra Modi government to try and isolate Pakistan. They have a very aggressive anti-Pakistan posture because Modi wants to blame Pakistan for all the barbarism they are doing in Kashmir. What can one do in the face of this attitude?”
