PM Modi To Address Nation Tomorrow At 10 AM

During his meeting through video conferencing with 13 Chief Ministers, PM Modi had agreed that the extension of lockdown is necessary to tackle the deadly coronavirus.

New Delhi| Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation tomorrow at 10 AM on the coronavirus lockdown. The address comes after at least 13 Chief Minister asked PM Modi to extend the lockdown till 30 April in a video conference. The PM is likely to extend the lockdown till 30 April with relief to some sectors in order to restart the economy.

During his meeting through video conferencing with 13 Chief Minister, PM Modi had agreed that the extension of lockdown is necessary to tackle the deadly coronavirus.

The experts have expressed severe economic fallout in India’s growth after the businesses came to a halt in light of the lockdown. The Indian economy was already growing at a slow speed in the last couple of years. With millions of people losing their jobs, shops, and businesses being closed, the economy is predicted to take a toll that could result in a sharp fall in jobs and per capita income of the country.

To compensate for the same, there is a proposal to mark districts as red, orange and green based on the severity of Covid-19 spread in certain districts. It is likely that districts marked as red will not see any restrictions lifted whereas districts marked as orange and green will have some restrictions lifted, though the social distancing practice will continue.

According to officials, the 400 districts which are in the green zone and are not affected by the coronavirus pandemic, will see agriculture, construction, and manufacturing activities restarting in order to push back the threat of recession.

Prime Minister Modi had indicated in his meeting with Chief Ministers that though saving lives is the top-most priority, the economy also needs to be restarted. Referring to the same, he had said, “Jaan Bhi, Jahaan Bhi” (both life and economy are important).

India has reported over 9000 coronavirus cases till Monday. The death toll due to Covid-19 is at 308.
