PM Modi in Champaran: “NDA government accelerated pending development projects”

PM Modi addressed about 20,000 cleaning workers in Champaran. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was also present at the program.

 

On the occasion of the centenary of the Champaran Satyagraha led by Mahatma Gandhi, PM Modi reached Motihari in Bihar to participate in the closing ceremony of the event organized to commemorate the Champaran Satyagraha. Prime Minister Modi addressed about 20,000 cleaning workers. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was also present during the program. PM Modi delivered his opening remarks in Bhojpuri taking everyone by surprise.

 

Here’s what is said by the Prime Minister-

  • Prime Minister Modi in his speech emphasised the need for cleanliness. He said thousands of ‘Swachhatagrahis’ (cleanliness campaigners) have gathered here. He saluted the energy and enthusiasm of the attendees.
  • Praising Bihar’s contribution to the nation-building, PM Modi said that the state made Gandhiji a Mahatma first; secondly, the Bhoodan movement by Vinoba ji began here. PM Modi also mentioned the emergency. He said when the democracy was in crisis, it was Jayprakash Narayan who saved it.
  • PM Modi also hailed the work done by CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Sushil Modi saying that their leadership has encouraged the state’s people. “Bihar was the only state where the scope of sanitation was less than 50%. But I was told that Bihar broke this barrier after a week’s hygiene campaign,” said Modi. He also congratulated the state for building more than 8 lakh 50 thousand toilets.

  • Apart from the Swachha Bharat campaign, PM Modi talked about several initiatives started by the Government including Amrit Yojana, Ujjwala scheme etc. He also promised to soon make the coasts of Ganga open defecation free.
  • PM Modi here also laid the foundation stone of the National Highway Project which approximately cost ₹900 crores. The four-lane road has been built under the project between Choradaha from Aurangabad. He also said that soon it will be turned into a 6 lane road.
  • PM Modi here also launched the Hamsafar express which will run between Katihar and old Delhi. He also mentioned the Phase One of Electric Locomotive Factory released in Madhepura.
  • Talking about the project, PM Modi said that the project was approved in 2007. However, despite the approval project couldn’t start off for 8 years. He said, after coming to power, the NDA government increased the pace of the work and completed the first phase.
