New Delhi| Amidst the mounting concerns over the situation in Kashmir, Prime Minister Modi is expected to address the nation today. According to reports, he may address the nation at 4 PM through Radio. It is expected that he may reveal what led to Central govt’s decision of abrogating Article 370. The Article conferred special status to Jammu and Kashmir. However, Modi govt decided to abrogate the article and bifurcate the state into two Union Territories.

On Monday, Article 370 came to an end with a Presidential order. Home Minister Amit Shah also presented bills in the parliament to Abolish Article 370 and to bifurcate it. Both the houses of parliament passed these bills with a majority.
Earlier, Prime Minister was expected to address the nation on the last day of Rajya Sabha’s current session i.e. on August 7. However, the sudden demise of former cabinet minister Sushma Swaraj led to the adjournment of the upper house.

This will be PM Modi’s first address to the nation after being re-elected to power. Earlier, he addressed the nation on March 27 when he announced that India had demonstrated anti-satellite missile (A-Sat) capability by shooting down a live satellite.
His address also comes a week before his customary address at Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day.
