Police arrests 3 in connection with the abduction and murder of P Chidambaram’s kin

An industrialist S Sivamoorthy (47), a close kin of former Finance minister P. Chidambaram who was reported missing since Monday has been allegedly murdered by three unknown persons. The three men were arrested on Tuesday night from a town near Vellore, the police said.

The family of C Sivamoorthy, 47, had lodged a missing person complaint on June 25 in neighbouring Tirupur after he failed to return home from his office. On receiving an alert from their counterparts in that town, the police here traced his car to an area near Vellore through the GPRS equipment fitted in the vehicle around midnight.

On Monday night police got a tip-off and arrested three men Vimal, Manibharathi and Gowtham near Ambur and after interrogation, they confessed to having murdered Sivamoorthy. They had also dumped the body in a tank near Krishnagiri. The police who have launched a probe rushed to the spot to search Sivamoorthy’s body.

The motive for murder is yet to be ascertained by police, though the initial speculation is that it may be a murder due to business rivalry. Siivamoorthy is the son-in-law of Chidambaram’s sister-in-law, the police said, adding they were ascertaining the exact reason for the murder.
