Mumbai: As per the official sources, the gap between the second covid vaccine dose and the third dose termed as โ€˜precaution doseโ€™ is likely to be nine to twelve months.

The nitty-gritty of the gaps in the vaccines currently being used in Indiaโ€™s inoculation programme Covishield and Covaxin is being worked out, and a final decision over this will be taken soon, they said.

While addressing the nation on Saturday night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that vaccination against COVID-19 for children between 15-18 years will start from January 3, while โ€œprecaution doseโ€ for healthcare and frontline workers would be administered from January 10.

The decisions came amid rising Covid cases linked to the Omicron variant of the virus.

PM Modi said the precaution dose will also be available for citizens above 60 years of age and with comorbidities on the advice of their doctor from January 10 next year as well.

The precautionary dose denotes a third dose of the vaccine for the fully vaccinated, but PM Modi refrained from using the term โ€œbooster doseโ€, as it is generally referred to.

โ€œThe gap between the second and the precautionary dose of Covid vaccine is likely to be nine to 12 months with the immunisation division and the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) discussing on these lines,โ€ a source said.

More than 61 per cent of Indiaโ€™s adult population has received both doses of the vaccine. Similarly, about 90 per cent of the adult population has received the first dose.

With the administration of 32,90,766 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, the cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has exceeded 141.37 crore, as per provisional reports till 7 am.

A group of men allegedly disrupted prayers at a church in Gurugramโ€™s Pataudi on the eve of Christmas. The group, claiming to be right-wing activists, barged into the premises of the church and disrupted the proceedings. Police, however, said they had not received any complaint. The video shows some men entering the church premises on Friday evening and raising slogans โ€˜ Jai Shri Ramโ€™ and โ€˜ Bharat Mata Ki Jaiโ€™. They are seen allegedly pushing the choir members down the stage and snatching the mike as well. The incident comes at a time when offering namaz in certain open spaces in Gurugram has kicked up a controversy. According to TOI, A local pastor said, โ€œIt was scary as we had women and children around in the church. The nuisance is increasing with each passing day. Itโ€™s an infringement of our right to pray and religion.โ€ Pataudi station house officer Amit Kumar said the police did not receive any complaint so far.
