On Friday, 50 speakers of 25 parties took part in the Rajya Sabha on the vote of thanks to the President’s address. This has been one of the longest debates involving so many members.
BJP’s 18, Congress’s 7 and 25 MPs from other parties participated in the debate. Approximately 15 hours were set for these. Initially the opposition parties wanted a separate debate on the new agricultural laws, but later they agreed to include it in the debate on the motion of thanks.
The proceedings of the budget session so far have been chaotic. The opposition is constantly cornering the government on the issue of new agricultural laws. Some members including AAP MP Sanjay Singh were suspended from the house.
