Prof Ram Puniyani gets life threatening calls; registers FIR

Mumbai | Ram Puniyani, a noted academic and prominent civil society member, has been getting life-threatening calls from goons accusing him of being anti-Hindu.

Puniyani, a former IIT professor, has been known for his promoting rationalistic thoughts in his lectures.

He started getting calls on June 6.

“The first call was made to his landline at about 8:30 PM and received by Puniyani’s brother-in-law. The caller was abusive and aggressive and kept alleging that Puniyani was anti-Hindu. The caller threatened that Punyani must stop his activities or face the consequences. The caller said Puniyani must leave in 15 days. Five minutes later, there was another call which Puniyani received himself. Once again, using a very aggressive and threatening tone, the caller demanded to know if he was speaking to Puniyani himself. The professor decline and the caller hung up, but this time his number could be identified”, as reported by SabrangIndia.

Puniyani registered an FIR against the accused and wrote to the commissioner for additional help and security.

The Mumbai Police has moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and have given the round-the-clock police protection until the investigation is concluded.

The investigations are being monitored by the DCP’s office.
