Chandigarh| Punjab announced the curfew last month to contain the spread of COVID-19, which will now be extended by two more weeks, CM Amarinder Singh said today.
Now, the lockdown will remain in force till May 17. Depending on the circumstances after two weeks, a decision will be made on its extension or removal, Singh said.

During this period, shops will remain open and the operation of the industry will be permitted, but strict social distancing norms must be obeyed at all times, the CM Amarinder Singh said.
However, the containment and red zones will continue to remain under complete and strict lockdown.

Abiding the central guidelines, shops listed under the Shops & Establishment Act excluding those in multi-brand and single-brand malls in rural areas are permitted to open with 50% strength of workers.
In urban areas all stand-alone shops, community shops and shops in residential complexes are permitted to open.
Punjab was the first to declare a state-wide curfew on March 23 as the coronavirus outbreak increased pace in India.
