Railways To Run 200 Non-AC Passenger Trains From June 1

The Railways will run 200 new time-tabled non-AC trains from June 1. All the passengers will be allowed to book tickets which will be available online.

New Delhi| From June 1, the Indian Railways will be expanding its passenger train services from 15 to 200. 200 new time-tabled non-air conditioned trains will run from next month.

The 15 passenger trains that have been running since May 12 were air-conditioned and the passengers are required to maintain rules of social distancing and use masks and sanitisers.

“The fare of these trains will be minimal sleeper rates and can be availed by all categories of people,” a railway official said. The 200 non-AC trains are in addition to the Shramik special and the AC special trains which are presently running on the Rajdhani routes connecting 15 major cities to Delhi.

More info on the trains will be made issued soon, the officials said.

The Railways had indicated the move last week, stating it would begin issuing waitlisted tickets from May 22. The order applies not just to the 15 existing trains, but also “those that will be notified in due course of time”.

The decision comes days after the Central government extended the national lockdown for the third time but relaxed the bar on bus service and other public transport. The final choice in terms of relaxing public transport was left to the states.
