Ranbir Singh appointed Delhi’s new Chief Electoral Officer

New Delhi | Bureaucrat Ranbir Singh has been appointed as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi, officials said Tuesday. Singh, a 1991-batch IAS officer, succeeds Vijay Kumar Dev.

“Ranbir Singh, who earlier also served as the commissioner of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, has been appointed the new CEO for Delhi,” a senior official of the Delhi CEO office said. Dev held the charge until recently when he was appointed as the chief secretary of the Delhi government.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had last Thursday issued the order appointing the 1987-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre. Dev will succeed Anshu Prakash following his transfer to the department of telecommunications in the central government.

Kejriwal Pens Down A Clear Message To PM Modi For Singapore Visit Clearance

Aleesha Sam

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi pleading with the government to provide permission for his trip to Singapore for the “World Cities’ Summit.” “To prevent a Chief Minister from attending such a significant event is not in the national interest. This invitation is a source of national pride and respect, “He wrote.

Simon Wong, the high commissioner for Singapore, extended the invitation to Mr. Kejriwal for the meeting in June, and he accepted it. But he hasn’t yet gotten the go-ahead for the visit.

“The Singapore government has invited us to present the Delhi model at a world-class conference,” Mr Kejriwal wrote. “The Delhi model will be presented in front of many big leaders around the world. The whole world wants to know about the Delhi model,” he added.

“Give permission as soon as possible so that I can elevate the name of the country with this visit,” he added.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s proposed trip to Singapore in August to participate in the World Cities Summit is the latest issue of contention between the Union territory’s elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena.

An official from the CM’s office said a file was sent to the LG’s office on June 7 seeking approval for the visit, which is yet to come. The LG’s office did not respond to calls and messages seeking comment.
