Mumbai : RSS-affiliate magazine Panchjanya in it’s latest issue has termed E- Commerce major Amazon as “East India Company 2.0” and also accused Amazon for allegedly assaulting Hindu values through Prime Videos. It has also purported that the company has paid crores of rupees as bribe for favorable government policies.
The article reads as “Whatever the East India Company did in the 18th century to capture India, the same is visible in the activities of Amazon.” It also claimed that Amazon wants to establish it’s cartel in the Indian Market. It says, “For doing so, it has started taking initiatives for seizing the economic, political and personal freedom of the Indian citizens.”
Cover story by Panchjanya accused Amazon for bribing the government to get the policies in their favor. It said, “Actually, Amazon too wants to have sole rights on the Indian market. For this it has started taking steps to encircle the political, economic and individual freedom of people here. It is accused of floating shell companies to capture the e-market platform, of bribing to have policies in its favor, and of airing programmes opposed to Indian culture through Prime Videos.”
It ostensibly said that there are reports that it has distributed crores in bribes for policies in its favor. Amazon is locked in a legal tussle over the takeover of Future Group and is facing a probe by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
According to the report of Panchjanya, Amazon had promised to indulge small traders to get business but it didn’t fulfilled this promise. It actually floated its own companies like Cloudtail and Apiria in which it had significant stake and indirect control. Article claims that these two companies have 35 per cent of Amazon’s business.
Panchjanya Bureau’s article compares Amazon’s tactics with East India Company by saying, “Today the same thing is being done by foreign companies. Amazon is now stuck in such a controversy. Following cognizance of certain anti-Hindu content in programs such as Tandav and Paatal Lok on its OTT platform Prime Videos by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and some state governments, the company has apologised. People had alleged that Prime Videos is regularly airing such shows in which Hindu deities are made fun of and family values are assaulted.”
This is not the first time Panchjanya has hit out at companies. In an unprecedented attack on IT major Infosys, the RSS-affiliated magazine alleged that the Bengaluru-based company may be deliberately trying to destabilise the Indian economy and accused it of helping ‘Naxals, Leftists and tukde tukde gang.’
