Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating ‘Rudraksh’, an International Cooperation and Convention Centre (ICC), in Varanasi on Thursday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate an international cooperation and convention centre (ICC) constructed with Japanese assistance, also known as ‘Rudraksha’, in Varanasi on July 15.
At this convention centre, as many as 108 Rudraksha have been installed and its roof is shaped like a Shiva Linga. A glimpse of the cultural richness of the ancient city of Kashi can be seen through this convention centre.
“To take part in the inauguration ceremony of Rudraksh, Japanese ambassador Satoshi Suzuki along with his wife and seven other delegation members, including Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) officials reached here on Wednesday,” said Kaushal Raj Sharma, District Magistrate.
“To mark its inauguration, the PM will plant a sapling of Rudraksh tree, which has already been brought here from Kolkata,” Sharma added.

The project aims to provide opportunities in Varanasi for social and cultural interactions between people at the international convention centre, the officials said. This is expected to strengthen the city’s competitiveness by developing its tourism sector.

“Built-in a shape of ‘Shivlinga’, this world-class auditorium has advance light and sound systems and 1,200 seating capacity where mega literary, cultural events including music concerts, exhibition and conventions will be hosted,” said Smart City Varanasi Limited chairman and divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal.
This centre is spread in 2.87 hectares of land, it is a two-storey building that comprises the main hall, meeting rooms, a gallery, and parking space for 120 cars.
The ICC will be equipped with ample security systems. It will be an ideal destination for holding all types of international events with a separate VIP entrance, a regular entrance and a service entrance.
