Ahmedbad| Senior Congress leader and corporator from Ahmedabad Badruddin Shaikh passed away on Sunday owing to coronavirus infection. Shaikh had tested positive for Covid-19 on 15th April and was admitted to the SVP hospital on the same day. He also had other health conditions such as comorbid, high diabetes, and heart ailment. His condition worsened in the hospital and he was provided ventilator support on 17th April. Along with him, his wife has also tested positive for Covid-19 has been treated in SVP hospital currently.

A senior leader of our Gujarat Congress family, I knew him since 40 years when he was with Youth Congress. He was relentlessly working with poor people and was infected with COVID-19.”

“I am distraught on hearing the sad news of Badruddin Shaikh’ s death. He will be remembered as a learned man who served his people,” BJP Spokesperson Bharat Pandya told Ahmedabad Mirror.
Badruddin Shaikh was corporator from Danilimada area in Ahmedabad, which is one of the Covid-19 hotspots in the city. From 2010-2015, he was the leader of opposition in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
The number of Covid-19 cases in Gujarat, however, continues to spike as the numbers reach 3,071 with 133 deaths reported due to coronavirus, till 5 PM on 26th April. 282 patients have recovered so far. Out of the total cases, as many as 2,181 are reported from Ahmedabad with 104 deaths because of the deadly virus. The information was procured from the Union Health Ministry website.
