Editorial With Sujit Nair | Is RSS Angry With Modi?

Sujit Nair

In this episode of Editorial, Mr. Sujit Nair discusses RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks following the Lok Sabha election results, which seemed to be aimed at the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his first public comments on the BJP’s failure to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha, Bhagwat stated that a true sevak (one who serves the people) should not have “”ahankar”” (arrogance) and should act without causing harm to others. He mentioned that “”decorum was not maintained”” during the bitter election campaign. Speaking to a gathering of RSS leaders and workers at the conclusion of the Karyakarta Vikas Varg, a periodic training program for RSS members, in Nagpur on the same day the new BJP-led coalition held its first Cabinet meeting, Bhagwat emphasized the importance of building consensus. He also reiterated the RSS’s concern about the ongoing violence in Manipur, questioning who would address the issue on the ground and stressing that it needed to be a priority. “”A true sevak maintains decorum while working… The one who upholds decorum does his work without becoming attached to it. There is no arrogance of ‘I did this.’ Only such a person deserves to be called a sevak,”” Bhagwat stated.
