Shocking Video From Mumbai Hospital Shows Corona-Patients Lying Next To Dead Bodies

The number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai alone has reached 10,714 with 400 people dying of the infectious virus.

Mumbai| A mobile video shot in a war of hospital in Mumbai shows coronavirus patients lying next to the corpses wrapped in body bags. The horrific clip, now circulated on social media, is from Sion hospital which is run by the municipal corporation.

At least seven bodies could be seen wrapped in body bags as patients are being treated in adjoining beds. Some patients have family members visiting them ignoring the bodies next to them.

An MLA of the BJP from Kankavli constituency, Nitish Rane, posted the video on his twitter handle on Wednesday and said – “In Sion hospital, patients are sleeping next to dead bodies!!! This is the extreme…what kind of administration is this! Very very shameful!!”

Pramod Ingale, the dean of Sion hospital said that the family members of the deceased who succumbed to Covid-19 were reluctant to take their bodies “That is the reason why the bodies were kept there unattended. We have now removed the bodies and are probing the matter,” he was quoted by the news agency PTI.

When asked why bodies were not shifted to the mortuary, Ingale responded, “There are 15 slots in the hospital mortuary, of which 11 are already filled. If we shift all the bodies to the mortuary, it will be a problem for bodies of those who died of causes other than COVID-19.”

The hospital staff said that the video may have been taken when they were waiting for the consent of the deceased’s families to move the bodies.

The staff also stressed that “there is no scope of the infection spreading” once the body is packed in body bags. The clarification, though, did little to reduce the sheer horror of patients who had to sleep next to body bags.

Maharashtra has the highest cases of coronavirus across the country with 16,800 cases of Covid-19. The number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai alone has reached 10,714 with 400 people dying of the infectious virus.
