Supreme Court In Coronavirus Trap: 50% Staff Test Positive, Judges To Work From Home

All the judges of the Supreme Court will work from their own residence during this period. Different benches of the court will sit one hour beyond the scheduled time.

 

New Delhi| The second wave of Coronavirus in the country has hit the Supreme Court. If sources are to be believed, several staff members of the Supreme Court have been found to be coronavirus positive. As a precaution, all the hearings in the Supreme Court will now be done through video conferencing. All the judges will work from their own residence during this period. During this time, different benches of the court will sit one hour behind the scheduled time and will hear the cases.

As many as 44 out of 90 staff members tested for the virus turned out to be positive. “Judicial work will not be affected,” NDTV quoted Justice DY Chandrachud as saying.

Record 1.69 lakh cases in 24 hours

Coronavirus cases in the country are setting new records every day. In the last 24 hours, one lakh 69 thousand 914 cases were reported. This is the largest number of day-to-day infections in the country. Earlier, on April 10, 1 lakh 52 thousand 565 cases were reported.

On the other hand, the death toll is also increasing with the new infected. On Sunday, 904 people died due to coronavirus. This is the largest number of people who lost their lives in a single day in the last 6 months. Earlier, on October 17 last year, the maximum number of 1,032 people died.
