The Agra model? Viral Video Raises Question On Modi Govt Praising It

The video shows those quarantined at a centre in UP’s Agra struggling for food & water from behind a locked gate as a man throws biscuits at them.

Agra| In a video clip from a quarantine facility in Agra shows a person wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) food packets from outside a locked gate, as dozens of people inside stretch out their hands through the iron grille and try to grab them.

In another video clip, a woman at the same location says that it is Sharda Group Institution which is a quarantine centre in Agra. She says that the people behind the locked gate are isolated and that they were brought in for a check-up, which hasn’t been done yet.

“I was also brought here for a check-up but no such thing has happened yet. All the doctors and official are very careless here in every aspect. People are not even provided with proper food and water,” she said.

A few days ago, the “Agra model of containment” was showcased as a success by both the Central government and the UP government.

Questions on the UP government’s management of the COVID-19 crisis and its isolation and quarantine facilities have surfaced after the videos went viral.

Agra District Magistrate Prabhu Narain Singh confirming the incident said it occurred a few days ago, and “everything is fine now,” reported The Indian Express.

He told The Indian Express, “There was a gap of about four hours, and (in this time) they did all this. However, it was an isolated incident, and we have made sure that no such incident is repeated. Everything has been taken care of. Everything is fine now.”

Singh said there are over 500 people at the quarantine centre while a local health official put the figure at 130.

UP’s Agra has a total number of 381 positive cases in the district as of Monday Morning.
