While speaking to the media, Abhishek Banerjee on the allegations said, “I am ready to face any enquiry or every enquiry. If they have evidence that I have even taken 10 paisa, then there is no need to use CBI or ED, I am ready to be hanged. Because they (BJP) lost the political battle, they are doing this vendetta politics and that’s why when the case pertains to Kolkata, they have called me to Delhi.”

Earlier, Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira, who was asked by the ED to appear on September 1, skipped the summons and requested the investigative officer to question her in Kolkata.

The investigation agency officials claim that two companies with political links – Leaps and Bound PVT LTD and Leaps and Bound Management Services LLP – received protection funds from a construction company via the accused who are being investigated in the smuggling case.
