Trouble For Khattar Govt In Haryana? Congress To Bring No-confidence Motion, Eyes To Get Jat Support Over Farmers’ Protest

Through the no-confidence motion in Haryana, the Congress wants to show the Jat farmers that Dushyant Chautala and JJP is not supporting them.

State Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will present his second budget on Wednesday during the ongoing assembly session in Haryana. Meanwhile, the political mercury in the state is rising. Congress has issued a whip to its legislators, declaring a no-confidence motion against the government due to the ongoing farmers’ movement.

The BJP-JJP government of the state has also issued a whip to all its MLAs and asked them to be present in the house from morning to evening. Realising the seriousness of the situation, Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala called all his MLAs for dinner after the session. The motion of no confidence is the litmus test of Dushyant Chautala more than Khattar.

Through this, the Congress wants to show the Jat farmers that Dushyant is not supporting them and the Congress is in their favor. Congress leader Randeep Surjewala has said that the BJP’s devout and anti-farmer face of the greedy JJP of power is in front of everyone. “I appeal to all the JJP leaders and activists to support the Kisan agitation and immediately leave the JJP absorbed in Modi devotion. The Congress is fully with the farmers and will not back down from making the biggest sacrifice,” he said.

Maths of Legislative Assembly in Haryana

Haryana Legislative Assembly has 90 MLAs. MLA from Ellenabad Abhay Chautala recently resigned in support of the Farmers’ movement. The MLA from Kalka seat of Panchkula district lost his post after being sentenced by the Himachal Court. In the current situation, the total number of MLAs is 88.

The government needs the support of 45 MLAs to attain majority. Currently, there are 40 BJP MLAs and 10 JJP MLAs. Apart from this, the government also has the support of 5 independent MLAs. In such a situation, there is not much danger on the government.

Congress strategy

The Congress has 31 MLAs. Independent MLA Balraj Kundu, who recently withdrew his support from the government, is also supporting the Congress. In this case, the total number of MLAs will be 32.
So what is the Congress strategy behind bringing the no-confidence motion?

There is already discontent among some JJP MLAs over Khattar govt’s response to the farmers’ protest. The Congress plans that by playing the Kisan Andolan card, it can get JJP MLAs to ifs side. In such a situation, the government will fall. However, this does not seem easy. Anil Vij, the minister in the government, says that the no-confidence motion of the Congress will fall in the assembly.

Dinner diplomacy of JJP leader Dushyant Chautala

Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala called all the MLAs for dinner at the end of the assembly session. This dinner diplomacy indicates that somewhere they are afraid that their MLAs may shift loyalties.
