Tussel between BJP and AAP initiates as poisonous Yamuna river dip goes viral

New Delhi: In the national capital Delhi, a tussle between the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has started in the midst of Chhath Pooja. On the first day of Chhath festival, pictures and videos of devotees taking a dip in the Yamuna river in Delhi amidst poisonous foam had gone viral, on which the political tussel has started. The opposition BJP in Delhi had blamed the AAP government for the toxic water and air in the city.

On the other hand, Delhi Environment Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai has blamed Haryana for the foam in the Yamuna. Also BJP leader Manoj Tiwari has asked while raising questions on the Delhi government, when Yamuna is clean in Sonia Vihar, why does it become dirty while coming to Kalind Kunj?

Delhi Environment Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai on Monday blamed the BJP-led Haryana government for the toxic foam in the Yamuna river and said BJP party leaders here should seek answers from the neighboring state. Rai also said that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, had decided not to allow Chhath Puja on the banks of the river.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders are protesting against the Delhi government against the ban by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Chhath Puja on the Yamuna Ghats. Rai said, “I think BJP is desperate. The Lieutenant Governor belongs to the BJP government (of the Centre), and the party is in power (also) in Haryana.”

“I don’t understand why BJP leaders are not able to talk to their Lt Governor and the government,” the minister told reporters here. Rai said that as per the decision taken by the DDMA, the Delhi government has specified 1,000 Making arrangements to organize Chhath Puja at places. He claimed, “BJP has nothing to do with Chhath Puja and it has never arranged the festival before,” Gopal Rai said, “Manoj Tiwari should ask (about the foam) the BJP government of Haryana. Delhi does not release water into Yamuna, Haryana leaves it.”

Earlier, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari had accused the Delhi government of not allowing Chhath Puja on the banks of Yamuna as it wanted to cover the foam in the river due to high pollution. He had alleged that, ‘Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been saying since 2013 that his government will make Yamuna fit for bathing in five years. Today both the air and water of Delhi are poisonous. They did not allow Chhath Puja to be held on Yamuna so that no one can see how poisonous the river has become.
