New Delhi| Top Congress leaders on Thursday discussed the arising situation in the country amid the lockdown with party president Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi called for action in solidarity and helping those who are most affected by this lockdown.
Gandhi stressed that while the 21-day lockdown may have been necessary, but the unplanned implementation of the lockdown has caused chaos and pain for people, including millions of migrant workers across India.
With Sonia Gandhi, Former PM Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, and other senior leaders discussed the issues related to the lockdown in a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting conducted through video conference.
While addressing the meeting, Sonia Gandhi said that the country is facing unprecedented health and humanitarian crisis.
“The magnitude of the challenge before us is daunting but our resolve to overcome it must be greater,” Gandhi said.
She told that COVID_19 has already caused unimaginable suffering all across the world but has also “reaffirmed the bonds of brotherhood” that unite humanity.
“In our country, those who are most vulnerable to the consequences of this pandemic are the poor and disadvantaged. We must come together for their sake and do all we can to support them through the difficult days that lie ahead,” she added.
She further said, “the 21-day national lockdown may have been necessary but the unplanned manner in which it has been implemented has caused chaos and pain in the lives of millions of migrant workers all over India”.
