New Delhi | Spiritual leader and Social activist Swami Agnivesh on Friday was attacked while he was going to pay the last homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee near the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) headquarter. This is the second attack on the social activist in the span of 2 months, earlier he was allegedly attacked by BJYM leaders in Jharkhand.

Speaking to media house after the attack, Swami Agnivesh told,” I had gone to pay my respects to Vajpayee ji. Because of the police pickets, I had to walk down the last stretch… suddenly a group of people came and attacked us. There were two-three of us and they were quite a few. They beat us badly, pushed us around, abused us and knocked off my turban”. He further added that “They kept shouting ‘he’s a traitor, he’s a traitor, beat him.”

The Social activist is seen chased, heckled and pushed around by a group as he keeps walking, trying to shield himself in a mobile video. His headgear is yanked by one man and a woman is seen holding her slipper as if to beat him.

Earlier on July 17 during his visit to Jharkhand’s Pakur, Swami Agnivesh was allegedly attacked by RSS and BJP Yuva Morcha workers. The BJP government in Jharkhand however, any links to the attackers saying that “Swami Agnivesh’s ‘track record’ is such that the reaction doesn’t come as a surprise.”
