Bhosale had given slogans of “Jay Bhawani, Jay Shivaji” after taking the oath as a parliamentarian, to which VP Naidu had strongly reacted saying the ceremony is being conducted in his chamber and raising slogans is not permitted.
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, stressing that he meant no disrespect to Shivaji Maharaj or Goddess Bhawani, provided clarification on the row over the slogans raised by BJP MP Udayanraje Bhosale during the Rajya Sabha oath-taking ceremony. Bhosale had given slogans of “Jay Bhawani, Jay Shivaji” after taking the oath as a parliamentarian, to which VP Naidu had strongly reacted saying the ceremony is being conducted in his chamber and raising slogans is not permitted. He also wanted other members against raising slogans after taking an oath.
Many from the Nationalist Congress Party and ShivSena, as well as followers of the Shivaji Maharaj, felt that VP Naidu was disrespectful towards the highly revered king of Maharashtra.
Venkaiah Naidu, providing clarification on the same, tweeted, “Always been a strong and vocal admirer of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and worshipper of Goddess Bhawani. Reminded Members that as per conventional practice at the time of taking oath, no slogans are given. No disrespect at all.”
