Wanted Criminal Set To Join BJP Flees After Noticing Cops At Function

When the BJP state president Murugan was asked about the incident, he said he was not aware of the background of those joining the party.

A history-sheeter wanted in several cases by Tamil Nadu police had a close encounter with the cops, when he tried to join the BJP at an event in Tamil Nadu. In the presence of Tamil Nadu party chief L Murugan, Surya, who has several cases filed against him, was all set to join the party. He fled when he noticed police officials at the function. Police arrested four of his accomplices who were later released on bail.

According to police, more than 35 cases, including six murder cases, are registered against Surya. A tip-off was received that the history-sheeter would attend a BJP function, after which Chengalpattu police reached the venue and rounded up the place but Surya escaped in a car.

An FIR under Section 41 of CrPc (when police may arrest without a warrant) has been registered by police against him.

The Tamil Nadu BJP faced heavy flak after another history-sheeter joined the party in August 2020.
