Here is why CA students are protesting against ICAI

CA students claim that their answer sheets were not evaluated properly, the students have been protesting outside ICAI central Delhi office

New Delhi: The CA examination regulator, ICAI, said the due process will be followed for consideration of the demand of the protesting students for the re-evaluation of the answer books. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) also requested the protesting Charted Accountant aspirants to call off the agitation and advised them “to concentrate on their studies and preparation for forthcoming examination”.

CA students claim that their answer sheets were not evaluated properly, the students have been protesting outside its central Delhi office and demanded to recheck it.

Rahul Gandhi said over 12 lakh students are fighting for their right for re-evaluation. He stated that reports of errors were widespread, and therefore, their demand was justified. He even prompted other political parties to support the demonstrating students.

CA students are currently demanding a change in reevaluation rules.

“All the students are requested not to be carried away by such issues. The Institute is seized of their problems and taken into consideration and also look for the appropriate forum by following due process,” the ICAI said in a statement while protesting.

The institute said that students led by external agencies have been demonstrating outside the ICAI premises from 23rd September 2019. It further said, “In order to empathize with the genuine concern, of the students, they were given an opportunity to meet the officers and council members on 24th September 2019 wherein more than ten representatives including ICAI members, non-members and students participated in the discussions.”

“It is also seen that a few answer books have been circulated in social media sites alleging errors in evaluation on the part of Institute. The answer books have been checked and from the records of the Institute, it is noticed that none of these relates to May 2019 examination as has been claimed on the social media,” the ICAI said.

“While addressing the above-stated issues, the Director Board of Studies and HOD, Examination have once again today appraised the students about the examination system and process followed in the reevaluation of the answer books of CA. Examinations through video hosted on ICAI social media,” the statement added.

Central evaluation is being carried out in several papers of CA examination from November 2018, whereas examiners evaluate answer books under the supervision of head examiners and associate head examiners.
