Won’t spare those spreading fake news, communal messages on coronavirus: Uddhav Thackeray

Maharashtra has so far recorded 635 cases of coronavirus, of which at least seven have been traced back to a Tablighi Jamaat gathering in Delhi in mid-March.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray warned those sharing ‘divisive’ messages in the name of the novel coronavirus.

Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said strict action will be taken against people speeding misleading messages.

“Like coronavirus, there is another virus that is emerging, which is threatening social harmony, the virus of fake news and communal hatred,” Uddhav Thackeray wrote on Twitter.

Addressing communities other than Hindus, without specifically naming them, the Chief Minister said, “We celebrated Gudhipadwa and Ramnavmi by staying indoors. I am confident that other communities would do the same.”

During a recent video conference with CMs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that states should lift the lockdown in phases.

The CM also said no permission would be given for public events in the state. “Till further notice, no permission will be given for cultural, religious and sporting events in the state. Big festivals such as Gudhi Padwa, Ram Navami have been celebrated inside houses. Similarly, people from other religions should also celebrate their festivals indoors.”

Uddhav Thackeray said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi spoke to him earlier in the day.

Uddhav Thackeray also thanked Bollywood superstar Shahrukh khan for offering his office for quarantine facilities.

Informing that the number of positive cases are on the rise, Uddhav Thackeray said that the state has increased the number of testing labs.

Uddhav Thackeray also informed that no public, religious, political or any gathering will be allowed in Maharashtra till further notice.
