Yogi Adityanath government amends Dr Ambedkar’s name as ‘Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar’

On Wednesday, the government circulated a notice directing all its department to amend Dr Ambedkar’s name as Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.

 

The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has completed the process of amending the name of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar as Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. The government had introduced a proposal which was taken upon the recommendation of UP governor Ram Naik.

On Wednesday, the government circulated a notice directing all its department to amend Dr Ambedkar’s name as Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. The circular reads that in the article 344(1) and 355 in the 8th Schedule of the constitution, Dr, Ambedkar’s name appears in full along with his middle name “Ramji”. The circular also asks all the state departments to use “Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar” in their document hereafter.

The state government also directed all the departments and High Court Benches in Lucknow and Allahabad to replace Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar in all documents.
