Yogi govt ended mafia raj in UP; crime down 60%: Amit Shah in Saharanpur

Lucknow : Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that Yogi Adityanath led BJP government ended the mafia raj that “flourished during Akhilesh Yadav’s rule,” at Uttar Pradesh.

“I was listening to Akhilesh Yadav’s statement. He said that crime had increased in UP. In reality, crime has gone down by almost 60% during the Yogi government’s tenure. I have figures that speak for themselves,” Shah said.

“The mafia used to rule in Akhilesh Yadav’s government, which is completely gone now,” he added.

Amit Shah was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Maa Shakumbhari Devi University in the Behat Assembly constituency in Saharanpur district in poll-bound UP. The university will be constructed over 50.43 acres at a cost of Rs 92 crore.

“People used to say that they were ready to bring about a change, but will that stop the exodus? I had assured them that we would stop the exodus. Yogi Adityanath has not only ensured the safety and security of the people, but he has also ensured that criminals are kept in check,” Shah said.

“Akhilesh Yadav used to make fun of us, saying, ‘Mandir wahi banayenge, par tithi nahi batayenge [We shall build the temple there, but won’t say when].’ But we have shown them and the world,” he said.

Amit Shah also attacked the Congress on terror attacks. “There was a time during the Congress rule when terrorists would strike in India and there used to be no backlash from the government. But that has changed now,” Shah said.

He added: “They tried to attack India during BJP government’s rule, but they had forgotten that this is Modi’s government and not Manmohan Singh’s. Through the surgical strike, we have given them a befitting reply.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, too, slammed previous state governments and alleged that they had ignored Saharanpur.

“People of Saharanpur had been demanding a university for a long time. But the ruling parties before us didn’t have time for this area as they focused on casteism, religion and not on the people,” he said. “Their policies resulted in riots in the area women could not even step out in the open,” he added.

“But things are changing now, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The fact that the foundation of the university is being laid today speaks volumes,” he said.

He alleged that sugarcane farmers in the area would have to wait for years for payment. “Funds were diverted to orchestrate riots,” he claimed. “In monsoon, Kanwar Yatra would not be allowed in the area. We have all seen what happened in Muzzafarnagar,” Adityanath said, referring to the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. “But now in the last 4 years, there have been no riots in the state,” he said.
