Zydus Cadila Launches Cheapest Version Of Remdesivir At Rs. 2800 Per Vial

The company, in its regulatory filing, said it (Remdesivir version) will be sold under the brand name Remdac to government and private hospitals treating Covid-19 patients.

On Thursday, Zydus Cadila launched the cheapest generic version of Gilead Sciences’ antiviral drug remdesivir in India to treat Covid-19. Amid the reports of shortages of the drug at hospitals in the world’s third worst-hit country, Zydus has decided to price it at ₹ 2,800 ($37.44) per 100mg vial.

The company, in its regulatory filing, said it (Remdesivir version) will be sold under the brand name Remdac to government and private hospitals treating Covid-19 patients.

A few weeks ago, officials in some Indian states had complained of the supply issue. But earlier this week, a top executive at drugmaker Cipla said the supplies were stabilizing.

Zydus became the fifth pharmaceutical company to launch a copy of the antiviral in India after privately held Hetero Labs, Cipla, Mylan NV, and Jubilant Life Sciences.

Coronavirus cases continue to rise rapidly across the country, with India reporting its biggest single-day spike in new Covid-19 cases.

Over 16.9 lakh patients have recovered while over 47,000 deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.

Wednesday was a sixth consecutive day that India reported over 60,000 cases of coronavirus.
