2024 Polls: DMK Releases Manifesto, 1st List Of Candidates

On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu’s DMK party released its manifesto and first list of candidates for Chennai’s upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The DMK manifesto was released by state CM MK Stalin, DMK MP Kanimozhi, and other party leaders.

Take a look at some of the key promises made by the DMK in its manifesto:

1. Firstly, the DMK has vowed to address the longstanding demand for Tamil Nadu by exempting students from the NEET entrance exam. This move aims to ease the burden on aspirants in the state.

2. Additionally, they have pledged a monthly entitlement of Rs 1,000 for women across the state.

3. It also promises to remove the new National Education Policy 2020 and to abandon the plans for simultaneous polls and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

4. To alleviate farmers’ financial distress, the DMK has promised to waive loans and interest for farmers in nationalized and scheduled banks.

5. Furthermore, they have committed to waiving educational loans for students, providing much-needed relief to the youth pursuing higher education.

6. LPG will be sold for ₹500, petrol for ₹75 and diesel for ₹65.

7. A complete removal of toll booths on national highways to reduce traffic congestion and transportation costs.

8. DMK has proposed legal amendments to empower state governments to appoint Vice-Chancellors to universities, ensuring a more representative and accountable system.

9. Furthermore, the party has pledged to repeal the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and restore state status to Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the importance of preserving India’s secular
fabric.

10. Education reform is also a key focus, with the DMK vowing to scrap the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and abandon the proposed ‘One Nation, One Election’ model, emphasizing the need for a more nuanced approach to governance.

11. The DMK has promised free SIM cards with data for college students to promote digital inclusion, facilitating access to online resources and communication tools.

12. The manifesto also includes measures to promote gender equality, such as implementing a 33% reservation for women in Parliament and legislative assemblies and providing interest-free loans to women’s
self-help groups.

13. DMK has pledged to elevate Thirukkural, an ancient Tamil text, to the status of a national book.
The ruling party of Tamil Nadu also unveiled the first list of candidates for the upcoming General Election.

Finalizing the Lok Sabha seat-sharing arrangement with ally Congress. The ruling DMK has allotted nine seats to ally Congress in Tamil Nadu and a lone seat in neighbouring Puducherry. While DMK will be
contesting from the remaining 21 Lok Sabha seats.

“When the BJP came to power in 2014, they destroyed India. None of the election promises were fulfilled. We have formed the INDIA alliance and will form our government in 2024. In our manifesto, we have announced special schemes for TN and schemes for every district are given in this manifesto,” CM MK Stalin said.
