The Chief Minister said that his government is striving to bring back normalcy in the area

On May 28, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held a Cabinet meeting to try to bring tourism back. This is after the meeting that he held in Pahalgam. The J&K CM, Abdullah outlined the need for cooperation between the three power centres โ€“ the elected and Union governments and the Lieutenant Governorโ€™s office. This is to ensure security, law and order in the area after the Pahalgam terror attack.

He showed that the security of tourists is within the hands of the Lieutenant Governor.

While addressing a press conference, CM Abdullah said, โ€œThe fact is that security and law and order is not the responsibility of the elected government. Whose responsibility is it? The Lieutenant Governorโ€ฆThere are three sets of power centres that need to coordinate to ensure that things go smoothly hereโ€ฆ I can promote tourism; I can create infrastructure for tourismโ€ฆ But the security of the tourists currently resides within the powers of the Lieutenant Governor and that is the point I made that the Union Government, elected government, and Raj Bhavan, we need to work together to ensure that what happened on 22nd April doesnโ€™t happen againโ€ฆโ€

He then showered praises on the people of Kashmir for condemning the incident.

He then said, โ€œโ€ฆFor the first time, the people of Kashmir came forward to condemn the attackโ€ฆ No politician, religious leader can take credit for it. The people themselves came forwardโ€ฆThey condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attackโ€ฆโ€

Chief Minister Abdullah has started opening some tourist spots to bring people back to the region. This is in contrast to what happened shortly after the attack.

He said, โ€œEverything was stopped after April 22. Before people from all over the country comes here, we should come first here. Hence, a cabinet meeting was called in Pahalgam yesterday and today a meeting of administrative secretaries and senior department heads was heldโ€ฆI have directed the Education Minister to ensure that picnics are resumed in schools and colleges and visits to Gulmarg and Pahalgam are made to move towards normalcyโ€ฆโ€

CM Abdullah said, โ€œI am grateful that they came. They contacted us that they want to come here. I hope that their visit will become beneficial for us.โ€
