Amritpal Singh’s Aide ‘Toofan’ Released From Amritsar Jail After Protests

Toofan had been behind bars on charges of abduction. Judicial magistrate Pratham Manpreet Kaur pronounced the order earlier today.

Following the orders of the Ajnala court, Amritpal Singh’s aide Lovepreet Toofan was released from Amritsar jail on Friday. The decision came a day after followers of Amritpal Singh stormed the Ajnala police station, demanding the immediate release of Toofan, reported India Today.

Toofan had been behind bars on charges of abduction. Judicial magistrate Pratham Manpreet Kaur pronounced the order earlier today.

The supporters of Amritpal Singh, armed with swords, guns and lathis laid siege to a police station in Punjab on Thursday. Amritpal Singh is the chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’, a separatist organisation demanding Khalistan.

Moments after walking out of the jail, Lovepreet Toofan was qouted saying by Indian Today TV that he was grateful to “all” and that the Sikh community should unite”. He also extended his gratitude to the authorities for the treatment he deserved.

“Thanks to all, the Sikh community should unite. I thank all the officers who treated me well inside,” ‘Toofan’ said.

Earlier in the day, Amritsar SSP said the release was pronounced because the evidence before the court showed that ‘Toofan’ was not present on the spot.

“Lovepreet Toofan is being released as the evidence they produced established that he was not present on the spot. We are submitting that to the court. A police force has been deployed as a precautionary measure and the situation is under control,” Amritsar SSP was quoted by news agency ANI.
