Ashok Gehlot: ‘Murder After Rape Increased Due To Law Of Hanging The Culprit’

Ashok Gehlot Remark on law for rape culprit
Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said ,”Due to the law on the hanging of culprits after the Nirbhaya case, the incidents of murder after rape have increased.”

Mumbai: Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that after the law to hang the rape accused came into effect, the number of murders after rape has increased across the country.
The Chief Minister made this statement in Delhi on Friday during the Congress’ demonstration against the central government over price hikes and unemployment.
He said: “After the Nirbhaya case, the demand to hang the accused gained momentum and then the law came into effect. Since then, there has been an increase in the number of murders of women after rape.”

“Due to the law on hanging guilty after the Nirbhaya case, incidents of murder after rape have increased. This is a dangerous trend in the country,” the Rajasthan Chief Minister said. Mr Gehlot said the trend of murder by rape had reached alarming proportions across the country.

“The rapist feels that the victim will become a witness against the accused. In such a situation, the accused finds it right to kill the victim. The reports that are coming from all over the country show a very dangerous trend. The situation in the country is not good,” he added.

Last year, KR Ramesh Kumar’s remarks on rape, leader of the Karnataka congress and former president of the Karnataka Assembly, caused a stir in the country.
“There is a saying that when rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it. This is exactly the position you are in,” he said.

Earlier, party leader Samajwadi (SP) Mulayam Singh Yadav had questioned the death penalty for rapists, saying it was unfair to inflict the death penalty on rapists for their mistakes.

Rape ke liye phaansi dena ghalat hai, ladkon se ghalti ho jaati hai, hum satta mein aaye to kanoon mein badlav karenge (Handing death sentence for rape is not fair… boys make mistakes… there will be changes in the law if we come to power),” Mr Singh had said.

The four convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case were hanged to death at Tihar Jail in Delhi on March 20, 2020.
The four, along with two others including Ram Singh and a youth, raped and brutally tortured a 23-year-old paramedic student on a moving bus in South Delhi on the night of December 16, 2012.
The victim died days later after fighting for his life in a Singapore hospital. She had previously been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

The case had caused an uproar across the country, especially in Delhi, where large numbers of people took to the streets to demand justice for the victim, renamed “Nirbhaya” or “The Intrepid”.
