Assam Floods: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Slams BJP; Says, They Are Blind For Power

Assam has been ravaged by floods, but according to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, PM Modi is focused on toppling the Maharashtra government. The BJP, he claimed, has become completely oblivious to everything else in order to obtain power.

On Thursday, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized PM Narendra Modi for not travelling to Assam and offering a special package in the midst of the flooding disaster. Gogoi suggested that PM Modi visit the state and make a special announcement, but he is preoccupied with overthrowing the Maharashtra government and influencing the Gujarat elections. Gogoi, the Deputy Leader of the INC in the Lok Sabha, added that the BJP has become completely oblivious to anything besides power.

ANI cited Congressman Gaurav Gogoi, “If there’s a crisis, it’s that of floods. BJP has gone blind for power. There’re floods in Assam, PM should visit the state, announce special package but he’s busy toppling Maharashtra govt, or in Gujarat elections…Only power is everything for BJP.ā€ (sic)

He posted on his official Twitter account, saying, “Mainstream channels who are covering political news in Guwahati, please cover the desperation of people in Silchar and Karimganj. They donā€™t have water, people are dying and shamshaans are overflowing with water. Im getting many calls and trying to help as many. #BJPisBusy” (sic)

CONGRESS SAYS, ASSAM CM IS BUSY WITH HOSPITALITY

Assam Congress criticized Himanta Biswa Sarma for treating Maharashtra MLAs to royal hospitality on Wednesday. “Ignoring 54 lakh flood-devastated people, Assam CM is busy giving royal hospitality to MLAs of Maharashtra,” Assam Congress President Bhupen Bora remarked. When he went to the hotel on Wednesday where the rebel MLAs were staying, Himanta Biswa Sarma entered the political turmoil in Maharashtra.

Bora criticized the Chief Minister for not sending a central minister to assess the state’s flood situation. The CM was criticized by the opposition for failing to persuade the Central Government to give enough money to handle and address the devastated flood situation.

Congress said that this disgusting politics of the Chief Minister of the State has brought humiliation to the people of the state of Assam, while hundreds of people in Guwahati city itself are still living in the middle of terrible uncertainty after being ravaged by floods and landslides.

FLOOD SITUATION IN ASSAM

Twelve more people, including four children, have died in the past 24 hours as a result of the flooding, which is still wreaking devastation. The number of fatalities from this year’s flood and landslides has now reached 100. In 4,941 villages spread across 32 districts, more than 54.7 lakh people have been impacted. The current wave of floods this year has ravaged about 99,026 hectares of cropland. At various locations, the Kopili, Disang, and Brahmaputra rivers’ water levels are flowing above the danger line.

On Wednesday, the Army carried out more relief and rescue efforts in the districts of Darrang, Barpeta, and Kamrup.
