Ayodhya

The victim has said in her complaint that Vansh Chaudhary, a resident of Sahadatganj in Ayodhya district, had promised to take her to places in the district โ€œfor recreationโ€.

Eight persons have been arrested in Ayodhya in connection to allegations of gang rape of a cleaning staff at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple.

In her complaint, the victim, a third-year BA student, said that Vansh Chaudhary, a resident of Sahadatganj in Ayodhya district, had promised to take her to places in the district โ€œfor recreationโ€.

According to a report by the Telegraph, the victim while narrating her ordeal said: โ€œHe took me to a guest house on August 16 and confined me there. He, along with his two other friends, gang-raped me and then invited three more friends to traumatise me,โ€ she stated.

The victim further said: โ€œFrom the guest house, they took me to a barrage in Banvirpur and again assaulted me. They released me on August 18,โ€ she said, identifying two other accused โ€” Vinay Kumar and Mohammad Sharqi.

โ€œAs I feared for my family members and my life because they had threatened to kill all of us, I didnโ€™t go to the police. But Vansh again abducted me on August 25 when I was going to the temple. There were Udit Kumar, Satram Chaudhary and two unidentified persons with him. They tried to assault me in the car but rammed into a divider and I got time to run away from their clutches,โ€ according to the report.

โ€œWe registered the case on September 2 after an inquiry and eventually arrested all eight accused. They were sent to jail by the court,โ€ Amrendra Singh, the person in charge of Cantt police station in Ayodhya. Singh said the girl trusted Vansh because she had known him for four years.

โ€œWe have stopped the probe for the time being in view of the ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court. Our team has conducted various inspections, recorded statements of a few people, and done a preliminary investigation.โ€ Andhraโ€™s top cop, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, was quoted by the media.

An FIR was filed in the case on September 25, and the SIT was constituted on September 26 to probe the matter.

On Monday, the Supreme Court questioned Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naiduโ€™s claim that animal fat was used in making Tirupati laddus, stating that at least the Gods should be kept out of politics. The court sought proof of the claim and noted that the chief minister made the statement on September 18, despite the FIR being lodged on September 25 and a special investigation team being formed on September 26.
