Taking a stern call against rebels who are set to fight as independent candidate against party’s official candidates, the Himachal Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled its Vice President Ram Singh and five others for six years from the party, The Indian Express reported.
Releasing a statement regarding expulsion of its vice president, the BJP said: “BJP’s President in Himachal Pradesh Suresh Kashyap has expelled primary membership of the party’s following workers with immediate effect for six years for independently contesting against authorized candidates.”
Suresh Kashyap, the party state unit’s President, expelled former MLA from Kinnaur (Tejwant Negi), former MLA from Anni in Kullu district (Kishori Lal), former MLA from Indora in Kangra district (Manohar Dhiman), former MP and former BJP state vice-president and rebel candidate from Fatehpur (Kripal Parmar), and former MLA from Nalagarh in Solan district (K L Thakur).
These leaders were indulging in anti-party activities. The expulsion order will take effect immediately, said Mr Kashyap.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is scrambling to keep its flock together in the poll-bound Himachal Pradesh, as several leaders who had not been given tickets by the party have filed nominations as independent candidates.
However, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has expressed confidence in the BJP’s victory in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. “BJP will definitely form the government in the state after the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections,” CM Thakur had said a few days back.
The elections in the state are slated to be held on November 12 and the votes will be counted on December 8. To hit the battleground of poll-bound Himachal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address a total of six rallies in two days – on November 1 and 2.
On November 1, Shah will hold three rallies in Chamba, Mandi, and Shimla, and the next day, the rallies will take place in Hamirpur, Kangra, and Solan.
The state with 68 Assembly constituencies goes to polls on November 12 in a single-phase election. 15 constituencies fall in Kangra, 10 in Mandi and five in Chamba.
