The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court acquitted GN Saibaba, a former professor at Delhi University, and other co-accused individuals who were arrested on suspicion of having ties to Maoists. Their appeals against convictions were granted. Justices Vinay G Joshi and Valimiki SA Menezes concluded the hearing and reserved the verdict last September, following Supreme Court instructions. Saibaba, Mahesh Tirki, Hem Mishra, and Prashant Rahi, sentenced to life imprisonment, and Vijay, sentenced to 10 years, filed the appeals. While Vijay Tirki was released on bail, Narote died in jail last year due to swine flu.
