Mohammed Zubair, co-founder of popular fact-checking website Alt News, has reportedly been arrested by the Delhi Police. Zubair, who has been vocal on social media against Dhram-Sansads, hate speeches and attacks on minorities, has been arrested for hurting religious sentiments, allegedly over his old posts on Twitter.

The Alt News co-founder has been reportedly booked under sections 153 & 295A of IPC.

Pratik Sinha, co-founder of Alt News, took to Twitter to inform about Zubairโ€™s arrested. In his tweet, Sinha wrote: โ€œZubair was called today by special cell, Delhi for investigation in a 2020 case for which he already had a protection against arrest from High Court. However, today at around 6.45pm we were told he has been arrested in some other FIR for which no notice was given which is mandatory under law for the Sections under which he has been arrested. Nor FIR copy is being given to us despite repeated requests.โ€

SC Grants Bail To DMK Leader Senthil Balaji In Cash-For-Jobs Case

Bail Conditions For Senthil Balaji: He must appear before (arresting officials) twice a week, not tamper with evidence or witnesses, and must surrender his passport.

DMK leader and former minister Senthil Balaji was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Thursday in connection with an alleged cash-for-jobs scam.

A bench comprising Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Augustine George Marsh flagged his lengthy imprisonment and the delay in a trial, and said these could not go together.

The top court said: โ€œWhat we have said is stringent and higher threshold of bail and delay in prosecution cannot go together.โ€

The 48-year-old politician has been in jail since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in June 2023. The SC, in November last year, refused to hear a bail plea, citing his health, noting it was not satisfied with his arguments and that his condition could be cured with medicines.

The bail conditions set for Senthil Balaji are as follows: He must appear before the arresting officials twice a week, he must not tamper with evidence or witnesses, and he must surrender his passport.
