As per the regulations announced on Monday, individuals seeking Indian citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) 2019 must have resided in the country for a minimum of 12 months before their application. Additionally, eligibility criteria include spending at least six years in India out of the preceding eight years. The CAA facilitates granting Indian citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.
