Digipub is deeply concerned and fearful for the safety of several independent journalists in Jammu and Kashmir who were described as terrorist sympathisers.
DIGIPUB, an organization of digital news media organizations, has tweeted and expressed their concern and fear for the safety of Independent journalists in Jammu Kashmir who are being described as terrorist sympathisers in one of the op-eds of Rising Kashmir.
Photojournalist Sanna Irshad Matto who is a Pulitzer prize winner was recently targeted and barred from flying abroad without any reasons mentioned by the Union government. Along with Matto, several other liberated journalists have been denigrated in the articles either by relating to criminal cases, threats or be it arbitrary detentions.
“Recently, they were also called as pro-Pakistan ‘vulture’ who ‘preach hatred’ ” DIGIPUB tweet mentions. They further mentioned, “These are defamatory accusations that have targeted and painted on the back of those journalists”.
DIGIPUB has demanded that the local media organization should pause and take a deeper look at what they are doing and cease the illegal intimidation of the independent journalists, ensuring their safety and protection of their constitutional rights. As the media is meant to strengthen the constitution and law instead of breaking it through sheer irresponsibility and absence of accountability by aligning with the State in defaming their colleagues.
