ED Attaches Rs 185 Crore Properties Of Surya Pharmaceuticals In Money Laundering Case

New Delhi: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has attached properties worth Rs 185.1 crore belonging to Surya Pharmaceuticals Ltd in a money laundering case.

The attached properties include building, plant and machinery, the ED said in a statement on Tuesday. The enforcement agency has taken the action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

ED initiated an investigation under the provisions of PMLA, 2002 on the basis of 2 FIRs registered by CBI on the complaint of State Bank of India, Chandigarh and Punjab and Sind Bank, Karnal against Surya Pharmaceuticals Ltd, its Managing Director Rajiv Goyal and others for defrauding the banks to the tune of Rs 828 crore.

PMLA Investigation further revealed that the modus operandi of the said fraud was availing Letter of Credits (LCs) in lieu of bogus invoices and discounting these LCs by the associated entities.

Through web of fraudulent transactions, they siphoned off the proceeds of the credit facilities taken from the banks and used for purchase of various assets in the name of the company, individuals and associated entities.

In 2012, Roger Binny was appointed as one of the five members of the selection panel of the BCCI.

Roger Binny, former Indian cricket team player and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, was on Tuesday named as the 36th president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

His appointment was announced at the BCCI Annual General Meeting in Mumbai. Binny succeeded former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Binny, 67, was the only candidate to have filed a nomination for the top post of the worldโ€™s richest cricket body.

Letโ€™s have a look at the champion cricketer turned sports administratorโ€™s life.  

Roger Michael Humphrey Binny was the first Anglo- Indian of Scottish origin to play cricket for India. Best known for his lethal bowling, Binny was the 1983 World Cupโ€™s highest wicket-taker (18 wickets) which is also one of the reasons India managed to emerge victorious in the tournament. He replicated the magical performance in the 1985  World Series Cricket Championship in Australia (17 wickets).

In His 8-year-long career (1979-1987) he cliched a total of 124 wickets. He also has two fifers to his name.

He is also experienced in serving as an administrator as he was president of the Karnataka Cricket Association (KSCA).

In 2012, Roger Binny was appointed as one of the five members of the selection panel of the BCCI. 

The other BCCI office bearers, who were elected unopposed include secretary Union Home Ministerโ€™s son  Jay Shah, BJPโ€™s Mumbai chief Ashish Shelar (treasurer), Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Shukla (vice-president) and Ranji trophy player Devajit Saikia (joint secretary). Outgoing treasurer Arun Dhumal will be the new Indian Premer League chairman.
