ED officials said the cars have gone missing from the parking space of Mukherjee’s flat in south Kolkata.
Mumbai: The ED is on the hunt for four cars belonging to Arpita Mukherjee who is linked to sacked Bengali minister Partha Chatterjee, till Thursday, the ED has recovered around Rs.50 crore cash from 2 flats of Arpita. The cars are an Audi A4, a Honda City, a Honda CRV and a Mercedes Benz loaded with cash, agency sources said. During the raids, the ED also found a diamond ring in one of Ms. Mukherjee’s apartments that read “P”, sources said.
The investigative agency is scanning CCTV footage and conducting several raids to locate the vehicles.
According to ED officials, Arpita Mukherjee owns two apartments at Clubtown Heights in the Belgharia district of Kolkata. During the raid on one of these flats on Thursday morning, ED seized nearly Rs.30 million in cash and five kilograms of gold jewelry. No recoveries were made from the second apartment, agency officials said. On Friday, the ED had seized Rs.21million in cash, Rs. 2 million in gold bullion and a huge amount of foreign currency from another flat that Arpita owns.
Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee have been arrested after hours of questioning in relation to the scam. TMC MLA and former chairman of the state primary education board Manik Bhattacharya is also likely to be questioned. The duo was questioned earlier too.
